6-foot-6, 2010, PF, Josh Egner from Massillon Jackson, Ohio gave Keith Dambrot and his Akron Zips staff the final nod of approval today as he confirmed his choice to I.P.S (Inside Prep Sports). via text message and phone. Egner who plays as hard if not harder than any prospect on the circuit, joins 6-foot-6, 2010, SF, Mike Green of Dublin Coffman to round out Akron’s class of 2010.

Egner plays his high school hoops for Mike Fuline at Jackson High and plays his summer AAU ball with the King James Shooting Stars for Percy Robinson and his dad Gary Egner.

Outtakes from Josh:

“I visited 5 or 6 schools, and honestly Akron was close to home and growing up in the area and getting to see and understand the tradition it was a no brainer for me and my family. Coach Mcfadden and Coach Weigand were very important with the recruiting process and once I got to meet up with coach Dambrot  it was the place for me. I am all about what he (Keith Dambrot) demands from his players and what he wants out of me at Akron. The coaches, the campus and the entire system was what sold me. I wanna double major in psychology and criminal justice at Akron. I need to keep working  on my perimeter skill set, and also keep developing my stroke in order to be where I need to be in College. I was just joking today with my teammate John-Mark Henninger (Kent State Verbal in 2010) and how cool it will be for us to play against each other in college. It is great that two local guys like us are going to such tradition rich programs and getting a chance to stay home and represent our areas. When I go to Akron I want to be remembered for what I did as a Player and to continue to build Akron get them back to the NCAA Tournament!  I also like the extra benefit of them being sponsored by Lebron and Nike, since I have played AAU for Lebron’s  AAU program I know how well they take care of you and that is just icing on the cake. This is where  I will be going this summer with King James during July; Kansas City, Akron, WVU Jamfest and Orlando.”

The Scoop on Egner:

Josh crashes harder than 99% of the kids that play basketball and he has a  very high motor, a undeniable love for the game and a confidence and a passion that you just don’t find in most kids these days. Like every young player he still needs to continue improving his offensive skill set and fundamental handle, but he will make up for that with his ability to defend, jump, rebound and run the lanes.  Egner’s high school teammate John-Mark Henninger will be going to Kent State, so there should be some competitive rivalries starting soon!

Schools that were on the short list:

William and Mary, Western Carolina, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wright State and Western Michigan.
