Eagles soar past Cleveland Central Catholic

On a night anticipated by many to see two of the top 2011 prospects that the state of Ohio has to offer (Zach Price/Anton Grady) face off, that thought was overshadowed by names like Pisco, Montgomery, Hamilton and Angers. Lakewood St. Ed’s rolled past Cleveland Central 80-42 with aggressive man to  man defense, pressing full court and making extra passes on offense to create easy shots.

Lakewood St. Edward came out aggressive and knocked the Ironmen in the mouth with a 17-0 run in the first quarter, lead by 6-foot-1, 2011, G, Kevin Pisco and his three point play to start the game. Pisco would finish the game tallying 25 points, including 6 bonus field goals from beyond the arc. 6-foot, 2011, SG, Delbert love chipped in 16 points with numerous jumpers and finishes around the cup in transition. 6-foot-9, 2011, Center, Zach “James” Price (Louisville) lead everyone on the boards grabbing 14 balls and scoring 6 points on the night. 6-foot-2, 2012, WG, Myles Hamilton added 9 points for the flying Eagles, but his tough defense and team play were vital in the 38 point victory. 5-foot-6, 2010, PG, Ryan Angers steered the ship for the Eagles, as he does all the little things; breaks the count, passes the ball ahead in transition, makes the extra pass, feeds the tree’s in the post and is a ball hawk on defense.

Central Catholic could not get the ball rolling, as they started out with a 17-4 deficet after one quarter of play. 6-foot-7, 2011, WF, Anton Grady was non-existent in the first half missing numerous shots inside and out. Central Catholic pulled within 15 points at the break making the score 34-19 at half time, but Ed’s pressured turned up another notch in the second half to put the game out of touch. 6-foot-2, 2010, WG, Chall Montgomery lead Central with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the night, while Grady added a quiet 3 points.

Lakewood St. Ed’s improves to (2-0) on the season, while Central Catholic falls to (0-3) on the year.

Other Games and Stats:

Cleveland Benedictine (4-0) topped Walnut Ridge (0-2) 67-55 on Saturday night.  Benedictine Senior’s Cameron Wright scored 26 points, Nick Harney and Derek Jackson both added a dozen. Ridge was lead by Junior Austin Traylor’s 22 points.

Canton Timken (2-0) topped Massillon Washington (0-2) 76-72, lead by 6-foot-1, 2010, guard Corey Porrini’s 23 points and 6-foot, 2011, G, Jehvone Clark’s 18.
