Cleveland, OH –

Mentor 99 Warren Harding 91 2 OT

In a battle of undefeated teams (8-0) and a possible future regional match up it was Mentor that would not be stopped, as 2011 shooting guard Cole Krizancic poured in 42 points, shooting 12-28 from the field and 16 of 19 from the charity stripe. Krizancic put himself on the state map, by showing his team could compete with the big boys and gain some state respect. Despite being down by double digits early on (13), and being out rebounded 46-31, Mentor kept to a simple philosophy of outscoring the bigger, stronger and more physical team.

Warren Harding was lead by Angel Gonzalez(2010) 28 points, after putting on a offensive clinic in the first half with put-backs, scoring moves and mid-range jumpers.  Kennis White (Western Michigan) scored 19 points, and none bigger than his lay-in at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Junior Prospect Tre’ Brown added 17 points, Senior, Freddy Williams added 15 points and athletic 2012 prospect Shaheed Davis chipped in with 10 points.

Lakewood St. Eds 57 Toledo Libbey 42

Eric Flannery’s team kept to their game plan, and that was distribute the basketball, and guard the ball on defense and the Eagles did this on Sunday jumping out to a 34-16 lead at the half and forcing Libbey to take one and done shots and forced them to make mistakes with their hustle and ball pressure. Delbert Love (2011) scored 15 points, off of numerous catch and shoot deep balls, while Myles Hamilton (2012) added 12 points on the night on  numerous swing-steps and crab dribbles in traffic. Zach Price (2011/Louisville) added 8 points and he used his length to alter and change shots on the interior. Cleveland Benedictine 57 Garfield Heights 54

In a game that looked out of touch for the Bulldogs of Garfield, a fiery final quarter brought them to within 1 point and 1 nail biting possession from winning the slugout. Trey Lewis (2011) scored 13 points in the 4th quarter, brought his team back from 17 down with 14 ticks left. A ill-advised turnover turned into a steal and a layup by Cameron Wright to stretch the lead to 3 points and seal the game.

Benedictine was lead by face-up forward Nick Harney (2010) 20 points on numerous athletic moves at the rim and a few dunk-shots on the night. Benedictine improves to 7-2 on the year, while Garfield slips to 5-3.

Cleveland St. Ignatius 48 Cleveland Central Catholic 39

The old cliche’ defense wins Championships is evident when you watch Ignatius on the floor, as they took advantage of a line-up change early on against Central Catholic. Shonn Miller (2011) pumped in 15 points for the victors on the night as he showed the ability to knock down shots on the edges and use his athletic ability to get to the line. Senior Vito Sosic also helped on the night adding 12 points.

Anton Grady (2011) would not disappoint as he scored 16 points on the night, but playing sparing minutes.Grady showed the ability to handle the ball when playing up/down and make the right plays on the break. Chall Montgomery (2010) scored 8 points on the night showing off his athletic ability with tip-ins, reverse lay-ins and a 1-handed flush down the stretch.  Central just didn’t have enough in the tank to bring it back in the final frame.

Akron SVSM was lead by Jakarr Sampson’s (2011) 16 points and 2012 Lorenzo Cugini’s 15 points. SVSM could not hold off the pesky Height’s team as they lead by 6 points with 2 minutes to go, but a final run by Heights would be the difference at the end.
