Dayton, OH–

The 8th annual Dayton Flyin’ to the Hoop basketball tournament in Kettering, Ohio tipped off with a full docket of National teams on the first day, as that list included numerous prospects from all over the map and for all levels alike.  Marion Franklin (OH) came back to defeat Centennial (GA) 83-75 after being down by 10 points at the end of the 1st. Marion Franklin was lead by senior guard DeJuan McGaughy’s 22 points and sophomore  sensation Elijah Macon’s 15 points and 12 rebounds. The 2nd game of the day featured Cincinnati Winton Woods (OH) knocking off Garfield Heights (OH) 72-70 in overtime. Auburn signee Allen Payne would score 18 points, grab 6 rebounds and give out 4 assists to help aid the comeback victory. Garfield junior Trey Lewis would score 25 points on an up/down night from the field. The 3rd game was owned by Miller Grove (GA) and their deep interior size vs. Cincinnati Aiken (OH). The inside dominance of Miller Grove would prevail them to a 69-48 route. Big Baby Sophomore Tony Parker scored 12 points and snared 11 boards. Aiken junior wingman Aaron Thomas would score 17 points and get 8 boards on a poor shooting night from the field.

The 4th game featured Pine Crest (FL) and star Brandon Knight take on Cincinnati Princeton (OH) and their Ohio State wing Jordan Sibert. Knight flashed 36 points on 29 shot attempts to lead his team to a 64-61 victory. Sibert would score 15 points. The 5th game displayed Montverde Academy (FL) vs. Trotwood Madison (OH) is a defensive dogfight. Montverde who’s loaded with athletic wings held off the feisty hometown team 55-51. Darnell Tubbs (2010) was impressive in the 2nd half in a losing effort adding 15 points and 5 rebounds. Montverde has numerous high level wings, James Bell (Villanova), Jamail Jones (Marquette), Papa Samba Ndao (Boston College) and Steve Mondu-Missi (2011).

The night cap showcased national powerhouse Findlay Prep (OH) vs. talented Cleveland Benedictine (OH). Tristan Thompson (Texas) would not disappoint as the hybrid forward scored 17 points and rebounded 10 balls.  Findlay Prep won the game 64-60, after taking out their starters with a 57-40 lead. Derek Jackson scored 22 points in a losing cause.
