OSU Play by Play: Northland Dominates…Again!

The 9th annual OSU Play-by-Play Classic in Columbus, Ohio took place this past Saturday and featured many of the top prospects, teams and numerous future Big Ten Players all in one day.

The event would start off with Dayton Jefferson’s Michigan State signee Adreian Payne (2010), as he would put up big numbers scoring 21 points, snaring 18 rebounds, and resending 5 shots. Dayton Jefferson would come from behind (10+) and win 66-53 over Harvest Prep.

The 2nd game of the day would feature Westerville South vs. Logan Elm, Traevon Jackson’s balanced play and coach Ed Calo’s pressure defense would lead Westerville South to a 55-41 victory. Jackson, a 2011 prospect would finish the day with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Marcus Ball, a 6-foot-3 Freshman would also aid to the attack scoring 11 points and snaring 9 rebounds, while finishing numerous times around traffic or on the break. Jackson is being recruited or has been offered by most of the MAC/Horizon league schools and is getting interest from many high major programs.

The 3rd game of the day featured Canton Timken vs. Chillicothe; the Trojans of Timken would be the victors with a 59-42 outcome. Rakim Reed scored inside/out going for 18 points. Jehvon Clarke scored 10 points, grabbed 5 boards, gave out 6 dimes. Chilli was lead by Jalen Ragland and his 17 points. 2012 prospect Malik London was quiet in the scoring column, but added 8 rebounds and rejected 4 shots.

The 4th game of the day would be the best, as Columbus DeSales would come out on top 65-62 over Wilmington in a double overtime battle. DeSales was lead by senior guard and Ohio University signee Nick Kellogg’s 27 points. Wilmington was lead by their senior guard and Miami-OH signee Quentin Rollins and his 30 points.

The 5th game of the day would feature numerous mid-level prospects and signees as Huber Heights Wanye outlasted Massillon Jackson 62-53. Wayne was lead by 2011 scoring guard Travis Trice and his 22 points, senior Xavier Jones would add 17 points and Markus Crider would throw in 13. Jackson was lead by, Akron signee Josh Egner’s 16 points and 14 rebounds including numerous athletic finishes at the rim. Kent State signee Mark Henninger scored 13 points and caromed 9 off the rim.

The 6th game of the day was a showcase for 3 future Buckeyes as Columbus Northland rolled by Bishop Leurs 88-67. Northland was lead by All-American and Ohio State signee Jared Sullinger’s 24 points and 9 rebounds. Sullinger showcased pull-ups from deep, powering sweeps from the interior and chased down outlets on the break. Junior guard Trey Burke (Penn State) played a very efficient game scoring 23 points on 10-of-14 from the field and handing out 7 assists.  High-riser and Ohio State signee JD Weatherspoon scored 8 points and finished with numerous dunk-shots. Bishop Leurs was lead by their Senior and Ohio State signee DeShaun Thomas’ 36 points on 11/21 shooting and 5/10 from beyond the line. Northland improves to 11-0 on the year and is on pace to win a State and National title.

The final tip of the day featured Cleveland Benedictine knocking off Cincinnati Princeton 55-48. Benedictine was lead by Pittsburgh signee 6-foot-4, Cameron Wright and his 19 points. Central Michigan signee 6-foot-1, Derek Jackson played the best we’ve seen all season scoring 14 points and assisting 6 others. Princeton was lead by their senior swing-man and 6-foot-3, Ohio State signee Jordan Sibert’s 19 points. Benedictine improves to 10-3 on the year.
