Lakewood, OH. –
On a night where most games across the state of Ohio were called off due to snow, one of the biggest bouts was still on the docket- – as you needed to show up an hour early or order it on Pay Per View to get a good seat!
Lakewood St. Eds would not disappoint their hometown faithful as they locked down Benedictine in the 2nd half en route to a 65-49 victory and improve to 6-3 on the year. Benedictine falls to 6-2 on the year after a stagnate second half of shooting and forced shots. The Bengals went 7/28 from the field in the second half, combine that with a 13 point run by Eds to go with numerous forced turnovers.
Offensively Ed’s had a well balanced attack with three members scoring 15 points each; 6-foot-8,2010,F,Matt Stainbrook, 6-foot-2,2012,WG, Myles Hamilton and 6-foot-1,2011,SG,Delbert Love. Another Eagle to add to the double-digit column was 6-foot-9, 2011, C, Zach Price, as he found a way to get in double figures adding 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Benedictine could not find a answer to the size of Stainbrook and Price as they combined for 27 points and 16 rebounds.
Cameron Wright (Pitt Signee) was on fire early on, as he started the first quarter with 8 points, only to finish the night with 17 marks in the book. 6-foot-6, 2010, F, Nick Harney added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Derek Jackson (Central Michigan) chipped in 10 points.
Final Notes:
Benedictine went into snowstorm offensively down the stretch as Ed’s pressure would not allow them to crawl back in forcing Benedictine to take numerous one/done possessions and forcing transition turnovers. Ed’s post player Matt Stainbrook played a solid all around game rebound, taking charges, hitting pick/pop deep balls and skipping out of the double down for spot-up shooters.
The Ed’s win snaps a 3 game road losing streak and Benedictine will try and heal their wounds Sunday at the CSU Play by Play Classic against talented Garfield Heights.
