Plenty of News and Scoop going on around the State of Ohio and Midwest with basketball season diving into March Madness. First off, Columbus Northland is undefeated and on pace to win another state title in Division One and is on route to be proclaimed as the High School National Champions. Northland is dominating their regular season conference play with 40, 50 and 60 point runaways. On the National scene they have valid wins of Oak Hill Academy, Findlay Prep and Mountain State Academy. Northland has 4 players committed to major College programs with Jared Sullinger (Ohio State), JD Weatherspoon (Ohio State), Trey Burke (2011/Penn State) and Jalen Robinson (2012/WVU). Northland also features Division 1 recruits Devon Scott (2012), KeChaun Lewis (2012), and Jordan Potts (2012). Sullinger just recently broke the Northland single game scoring record with 44 points!
Plenty of interesting games and shakedowns in Northeast Ohio recently with Canton McKinley going into heralded Warren Harding and stopping the Raiders on their own court 59-50. McKinley is no stranger to being the underdog as the might pups also have knocked off North Canton Hoover and are gaining credibility in the Federal League as the team to beat!
Canton Glen Oak knocked off undefeated Dayton Dunbar on Saturday Night with a high scoring outburst, as they knocked down double-digit deep balls and put up a wall of support on the interior glass. Dunbar was lead by 2010, G, Geron Johnson and his 21 points before fouling out late in the 4th. Dunbar is still our leader to be playing in Columbus on Championship Saturday.
Numerous big games on the docket on slate this weekend as the cross-town rivalry of Westerville South heads a few miles away to play Westerville North in their version of a backyard brawl. Inside Prep Scouting was at the last title bout, a game in which Treavon Jackson (2011) dominated the game from horn-to-horn and dished the game winning basket. South is currently undefeated at 16-0 and will need to bring their “A” game if they want to stop Ralph Hill (Dayton), Kenny Deboer (2010) and Matt Rhodes (2012) at home. Don’t be shocked if this game goes down to the wire just like the first one.
Lakewood St. Ed’s has a double header test this weekend as they host back-to-back games against talented Garfield Heights and undefeated and high scoring Mentor. Garfield Heights features numerous college prospects and is lead by 2011/SG/ Trey Lewis. They also have size and speedĀ Tony Farmer (2013), Will Weeks (2011) and Jermaine Davis (2012). St. Ed’s is currently 11-3 overall, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Top team. Ed’s is a very well coached team that executes as a team on both side of the ball and really gets after teams with their man-to-man defense. They have size and power in the front lines and feature numerous guards that can handle pressure. Mentor was just mentioned in the USA Today as one of the Top 10 Regional Teams in the Mid-west. They are a high octane, run-and-gun team that defends by outscoring you.
Outside the bread basket, there are still plenty of unsigned or uncommitted seniors.
